Topic: Illuminating intersections: navigating healthism and healing while supporting clients with eating and body image issues

Speaker: Ary Maharaj, M.Ed., Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) 

Abstract: In this presentation, Ary will share how the opportunities he's had as a clinician, community educator, and researcher have exposed him to the interconnectedness of many social determinants causing mental ill health. Using the example of body image and eating issues, attendees will be given space to share personal and professional reflections, and locate these concerns within systems of colonialism, supremacism, and capitalism. Focus will then turn to alternative philosophies that can equip us to play a more liberatory role in someone's life journey.
